María Martínez-Guzmán has been promoted to senior VP and executive news director at Univision News, effective immediately.
Martínez-Guzmán, who had been VP, news gathering at Univision, will head programming for all daily Univision Networks newscasts, including Noticiero Univision, Primer Impacto, Despierta America and El Gordo y La Flaca. She will also oversee Al Punto, the Sunday morning political show.
The executive producers for those shows report directly to Martínez-Guzmán. She reports to Daniel Coronell, president of Univision News.
“This well-deserved appointment is a testament to María’s talent, expertise, leadership skills, hard work, and unwavering commitment to helping Univision continue to be Hispanic America’s number one choice for news and information,” said Coronell. “For almost two decades, María has made incalculable contributions to the success of Univision News and has proven to be a great team player in addition to an extraordinary leader. We’re proud to have her, and confident that she will keep shining in this new role.”
Martínez-Guzmán joined Univision in 2002. She’d been with KNVO-TV, the Univision affiliate in McAllen, Texas.
