Jonathan Adelstein's swearing-in as the fifth Federal Communications
Commission member will probably have to wait until after Thanksgiving.
It seems that President Bush was tied up overseas last week -- something about lining up
NATO support for war on Iraq and asking Russian President Vladimir Putin to cool
it a bit in Chechnya.
Consequently, the president didn't get around to signing the necessary
paperwork for Adelstein and other nominees.
Government sources said there's no bureaucratic snafu
akin to the bungled paperwork that delayed commissioner Kevin Martin's
swearing-in for one month in 2001.
