Fox News Posts Ratings Win on RNC Night One

Fox News Channel beats broadcast networks during 10 p.m. hour. 9/04/2008 09:50:00 AM Eastern

Fox News Channel kicked off the Republican National Convention Tuesday with a huge ratings win, racking up 6.17 million viewers for the 10 p.m. hour when the broadcast networks also carry convention coverage.

That marked an increase of nearly 1 million viewers compared with the same night during the 2004 RNC.

NBC was second at 10 p.m. -- and topped its broadcast competition -- with 4.46 million viewers, followed by CNN (3.22 million), ABC (3.09 million), CBS (2.92 million) and MSNBC (1.59 million).

For primetime (8 p.m.-11 p.m.), Fox News averaged just over 5 million viewers, with 1.61 million of them in news' target demographic of 25- to 54-year-olds. CNN had 2.5 million (958,000 in the demo), followed by MSNBC with 1.42 million (570,000).
