The following position is open at KBYU:
position title: Manager of Engineering
Requirements: --Extensive, demonstrated experience and judgment in the fields of Production, IT, and Broadcast Engineering
--Thorough knowledge of broadcast standards, FCC regulations, and key industry contacts required.
--Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in technical disciplines such as broadcast engineering, information technology, or electrical engineering is required.
--Graduate credentials or equivalent experience preferred.
--An understanding of and experience in researching, writing and applying for broadcast infrastructure related grants such as PTFP, NTIA, etc., is strongly desired.
--Must understand and be able to make effective decisions related to the unique mission of BYU and it's sponsoring institution, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
--Deep experience and knowledge base in maintaining and designing complex broadcast systems. Thorough knowledge of equipment and operations in the following fields is required: media transmission including satellite, microwave and translator distribution, production, broadcast, and IT. Hands on experience in maintaining these systems is required.
--Must be able to communicate effectively in verbal and in written correspondence including presentations to BYUB staff, management, university administrators, donors, Community Volunteer Council's, and other stake holders.
--English fluency is required. Additional Spanish and/or Portuguese fluency is preferred.
--Must be able to coordinate the efforts of various personalities of differing backgrounds and experience.
--Budgeting experience required, including capital equipment needs forecasting.
--Proven ability to manage technical resources wisely is required.
Duties: --Supervising as well as personally maintaining BYU Broadcasting's distribution infrastructure including all technical equipment related to: BYU Television, KBYU HD, KBYU TV, BYU Television International (English, Spanish and Portuguese), KBYU Create, KBYU FM, BYU Radio, BYU Radio Instrumental, BYU Radio International, All Web distribution infrastructure (BYU TV, BYUTVI, KBYU FM, BYU Radio).
--Planning long term strategy for BYU Broadcasting's technical infrastructure: Researching, testing, and planning new infrastructure needs, Coordinating with executive management and other managers at BYU to align planning efforts with organizational priorities, Researching, writing and applying for technical infrastructure and equipment grants.
--Supervise and train a staff of nine full time engineers and at least ten student engineers (continual): Work alongside, train, motivate, and encourage excellence in the engineering staff; Provide correction and guidance where necessary.
--Coordinate with external and internal entities: Committee assignments, management meetings, and other general organizational training on technical infrastructures.
