SBS Partners with MySpace Latino

Spanish Broadcasting System (SBS) has partnered with social networking site MySpace to provide content from its television and radio properties, and help attract Hispanic audiences to the site’s Latino spin off. A campaign titled “Queremos un millón de amigos” (We Want a Million Friends) will be promoted on all SBS television and radio properties, as well as their Web sites, and aims to get one million people to MySpace Latino.

MTV Tr3s Unveils Three Reality Shows

MTV Tr3s this month unveiled three original productions that will have Latinos cooking, dancing and producing videos. The three new shows –all in the category of reality television- are based on the network’s Cooltura Panel, a group of 100 young Latinos that provides feedback to the channel on programming strategy and content.

HITN Premieres Show Focused on Latinos in the Upcoming Election

Hispanic Information & Telecommunications Network (HITN), the private non-profit channel, on April 10 premiered Destination Casa Blanca 2008: The Latino Voice in the Presidential Election, an English-language program that follows the presidential race from a Hispanic point of view.

In late November, David Downs, president of Univision Sports, visited South Africa for the first time. The occasion was the preliminary draw for the upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, during which organizers determine which countries will play against each other in the football confederations. During his visit, Downs also attended a broadcasters meeting and began getting acquainted with a place where he will spend a great part of the summer of 2010. Downs, a soccer fan born in the Netherlands, spoke to Hispanic TV Update about Hispanic sports fans, Univision’s coverage plans for the Cup and the monster ratings expected.
 


 

Cablevision To Deliver Mets Games In Spanish

Cablevision Systems will broadcast a total of 25 New York Mets home games in Spanish to customers subscribing to its iO en español (iOe) service throughout the season. The games will be available on channel 231 as part of the cable system’s Spanish-language programming package. All 25 games will be broadcast live with the Mets’ Spanish broadcast team of Max Perez Jiminez and Juan Alicea at the helm.

Telemundo Plans Spanish Channel

NBC-owned Telemundo will launch pay TV channel Telemundo International next fall in Spain on the same day that it bows in Mexico as part of a pact inked with Mexican media giant Grupo Televisa. The Spanish operation was unveiled at Cannes’ Mip TV by Telemundo International president Marcos Santana. Spanish cable carriers have still to be announced. In Mexico, it will be distributed by Televisa’s Sky and Cablevision, reaching more than 2 million households.

LATV has tapped Harry Neuhaus as regional sales director. He will head up sales in the eastern region and will report directly to Bill Jenkins, LATV's VP of advertising. Prior to joining the Los Angeles-based bilingual network Mr. Neuhaus was VP, national advertising sales for MTV Tr3’s, leading the sales efforts for MTV’s channel focused on bicultural and bilingual youth. Prior to that he was VP of ad sales at MTV Networks Latin America where he supervised both the MTV and Nickelodeon Latin America sales teams in Buenos Aires, Mexico and Miami. Formerly, Mr. Neuhaus was VP of Latin American Advertising Sales for CNN International, CNN en Español, TNT Latin America and Cartoon Latin America.
