News Corp.'s Murdoch, Cablevision's Dolan Among Newsday Bidders

News Corp. and Cablevision Systems are among the bidders looking to buy New York daily Newsday from Tribune. News of the potential sale came as the struggling Chicago-based Tribune announced dismal earnings.

FCC: Spectrum Auction Expanded Wireless Competition

The FCC's recent auction of 700-megahertz spectrum, which is being reclaimed from broadcasters as part of the digital-TV transition, was successful in not only raising a record $19.592 billion in revenues, but also in expanding wireless competition, the commission declared late Thursday.

Tribune Reports Q4, Full-Year 2007 Losses

Tribune reported a loss from continuing operations of $78 million for the fourth quarter of 2007 compared with income of $233 million in the same quarter of 2006. Tribune also reported full-year-2007 income from continuing operations of $55 million compared with $661 million in 2006.
