Dish Network Suffers Failed Satellite Launch

A new Ku-band satellite that was to be used by satellite-TV service Dish Network to increase its slate of HD channels failed to reach orbit after being launched from Kazakhstan Friday.

Clear Channel Completes Sale to Providence Equity Partners

Clear Channel Communications said it completed the sale of its television group to Newport Television, a holding company for Providence Equity Partners for $1.1 billion. The agreement for 56 TV stations is about $200 million less than the terms of the original agreement reached last April.

CBS News to Host First Debate; ABC News Sets Another

CBS News is close to finalizing plans for its first debate of the 2008 presidential campaign, according to network sources. The debate would be held in North Carolina, which has its primary May 6 along with Indiana. Katie Couric would moderate with chief Washington correspondent Bob Schieffer.
