Having reached the distribution it promised to deliver, V-me now plans to make 2008 the year of content, not only by premiering new shows, but leveraging the popularity of some of its properties to ink licensing and merchandising deals, such as Aire Yoga, which is now being produced for DVD.

Branded Content, Reality TV Intersect in New Kids Show

After months of negotiations, Univision beat Telemundo to the U.S. broadcasting license of ¡Viva la Familia! de Todobebé, the one-hour weekly show produced by Miami-based multimedia property Todobebé and set to air this summer. Financial terms were not disclosed but the deal applies only to television, and not other media properties owned by Univision.

Earlier this year, AlternaTV executives went to NATPE with an innovative offer to U.S.-based broadcasters: the possibility to purchase blocks of time, rather than specific shows, from the Latin American channels it distributes. To do so, the Mexico City-based distributor has launched a new business unit, AlternaTV Select, which offers broadcasters the ability to customize their own Spanish-language lineups to meet the specific needs of their target demographic. Hispanic TV Update spoke to Clemente Cabello, executive director, AlternaTV, about the new business unit, a la carte TV, and the opportunities created by the upcoming digital switch in the U.S.
