Michael Malone

Photo of Michael Malone

Deputy editor Michael Malone grew up in the New York suburbs on a steady diet of Sesame Street, Banana Splits and New York Mets broadcasts. These days, his DVR is stocked with, among others, The Office, The Mentalist, a Joe Strummer documentary he can't bring himself to delete, and more of those Mets broadcasts. The father of a 3-year old who digs Diego and a nine-month old with an increasing interest in the small screen, Michael covers all aspects of local television.

The Dave-ness of Letterman

WRC's 'Local' Show Out of NY

Interesting story in the NY Observer about WRC Washington’s Daily Observer program , which is comprised of bits from across the NBC media spectrum–NBC News, Weather Channel, CNBC, etc. The segments are edited in New York, sent to master control in Washington, and the program is hosted by a rotating cast of staffers at WRC. Most of Daily Connection’s... More

Playing Jax

We have B&C’s first-ever Market Eye profile of Jacksonville coming out in Monday’s issue. DMA #47 sounds like a lively place–beaches everywhere, a growing population, and a lot younger marketplace than what one might expect from Florida. As one GM told me, the transplants come to Jacksonville not so much to retire, but to live the bulk of their years.Station-wise,... More
