Steve Bartelstein is Cancer-Free
Not long after doctors told WCBS New York anchor Steve Bartelstein that his testicular cancer had spread to his brain, Bartelstein has been told he’s cancer-free, reports the NY Daily News. Two weeks ago, the Daily News said things were looking grim for the WCBS weekend morning guy.
It turns out his rare genetic makeup made him predisposed for false positive tests. The mixup wasn’t discovered until an eagle-eyed staffer at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center did a check on Bartelstein’s DNA and found he had a strain carried by one in a million people that prevented the actual results from emerging.
Now, after multiple blood tests to double-check the theory, he’s cancer free.
Bartelstein says he’s "thrilled beyond belief."

When I was a vegan I ate more sushi than I ever did before or after. Vegan sushi tatess much better than any other. There might be various associations between certain lifestyle choices and cancers, but nobody knows what really causes it. Stop blaming the victim and hoping to exempt yourselves with the perfect diet nobody understands why who dies when its out of our hands.Time to accept the things we cannot change. You think if Steve J. Would've made sure fish never made it to his sushi the rest of his vegan diet wouldve made him exempt from horrid diseases of mankind? Stop blaming the victim it wasn't his fault and veganism doesn't save anybody but the animals.

I don't watch ABC news anymore. They are dull and empty. Steve was a real people person. If he is in trouble, help him, don't dump him.

Why didn't abc fire Bill Evans?? He is a donkeys rear end. I can't stand Bill Evans. Why did abc fire
Steve Bartelstein who had cancer? Isnt that illegal? And you keep that jacka$$ Bill Evans. He is a pompous jacka$$ He started it. Fire the moron. I can't stomachhim. Steve Bartelstein and Lori Stokes had chemistry. Now it's ho him and I watch other stations. ANC you are now boring. You succeeded in making the station more than mediocre. Bring back Bartelstein and watch your ratings soar!!

I miss Steve too. I began watching him on ABC 7 with Lori Stokes and Bill Evans in the morning. The three of them had great chemistry. I followed Steve on CBS as well, he always brought great energy to the broadcast. Wikipedia reported that Steve resigned from CBS on March 17, 2009, telling the Daily News the following day that he was unhappy and felt unappreciated with his job. I hope that he's doing well wherever he is now. I miss waking up to that voice and smile in the mornings too.

After missing you, Steve, from ABC I finally found you on CBS, I even looked forward to waking early on the weekends to get the news from you. Then suddenly you were gone, please come back soon. I am thrilled that you are cancer free, stay well and good luck, but I hope one of the stations in NY realize what an asset you are and how many people love you. I certainly do.

Steve, you're missing again, and I'm confused. According to my last readings, your health is restored, so where are you? The last time I saw you was in Feb. Since you're also an Aquarian, I remember it was your birthday, then what happened? Prayers still go out to you-you're the best, and we miss you. Please be well, and stay strong. Hope to see you again.

I first discovered you on ABC while you were covering a partial building collapse in Manhattan. I flipped through the other channels, and no one else was covering it. As I was listening to you interject your knowledge of New York, I was engrossed with your coverage. You are something else. After I noticed you were missing from ABC (and I only watched it to see you), I read in the "Daily News" that you had been fired. When I heard you had cancer,I prayed for you like crazy. I was so happy when CBS hired you and hoped they realized what a find they had.
I did read that you were cancer free a few months back but later read that you were not. I am still praying for you. You are definitely the best. Like the prior person who wrote you, I don't watch ABC anymore either. It really isn't the same. They are stupid for letting you go and obviously didn't appreciate you. God bless you.

Steve,
I too, am happy to hear that your treatment and prognosis have resulted in the great news about your cancer. My daughter is an aspiring geneticist, so the news that further DNA analysis provided a full picture of the testing results is certainly exciting for her.
On the professional note - I miss you on WABC. It is just not the same without you in the AM with Lori, to start my day.
You have moved on now, and with a clean bill of health, are free to build upon an illustrious career in broadcasting.
How relieved I was when I just tuned in to CBS this Saturday morning and saw you in that screen-left position. You look great!! I enjoyed hearing your voice and your always witty, personal perspectives.
Good luck to you in your future endeavors!

Steve I am so happy to hear that you are cancer free. I saw you on channel 2 news this past Superbowl Sunday and I was so happy because I had'nt seen you on channel 7 and did'nt know know any of the whys'. AT first I assumed thta you were on vacation, because if I remember correctly Lori had taken a vacation or somethng and then when she came back you were gone and I only watched that channel just to look at you and to here the weather. I thought that you and Lori had something going by the weay that she just always stared at you with like dreamy eyes but I guess that was just good chemistry between guys. Stay strong Steve and I wish you a speedy recovery. I can't even watch channel 7 news without you there. It's just not the same PERIOD!!!!
