January 9, 2009

KNBC marks its 60th anniversary with the special NBC4’s Anniversary at 7 p.m. January 16–60 years to the day after the station, then KNBH, signed on. Hosted by Paul Moyer and Colleen Williams, the one-hour special takes viewers through "the events that shaped the history of both the station and the Southland" over the past six decades.

Highlights include the Los Angeles riots, the O.J. trial, the Kirk Gibson World Series home run and limp around the bases, and KNBC Consumer Advocate David Horowitz being taken hostage by a guy with a gun on the air in 1987.

Celebrated Angelenos in the special include Tommy Lasorda, Greg Louganis and Manson prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi.

Former KNBC reporter Tom Brokaw working the phones at some point between ‘66 and ‘73.
