A Welcome Voice

October 20, 2008

I often describe Marie as a “person in full,” borrowing from Tom Wolf.  She is a single, working mother of eight children, seven of them living with her at home. Years ago she had a very public bout with post-partum depression. In the past year alone she experienced a divorce (her second), the death of a parent, a teenage son going through rehab, a new move and a new job (Donny & Marie in Las Vegas). And what always comes though loud and clear, no matter what the challenge, is Marie’s sense of humor. Her upcoming book, due around Mother’s Day, is called “You Might as well Laugh about it Now.” After all says Marie, “You’re going to laugh about it eventually so you might as well laugh about it now.”

In what will surely be a difficult year ahead for many Americans, Marie will be a welcome voice. In fact, no other talk show host in recent memory has the kind of life experience that viewers can actually relate to. Marie’s experience and her delightful sense of humor will resonate with women watching television in daytime. And guess what? It looks like there’s about to be a whole lot more of them.

Tough times mean difficult decisions for individuals and families alike. Lots of pressure and stress on everyday life. It may be time for a healing tonic and I think Marie is just what the doctor ordered.

Ritch, Could you please advise Marie to sue that ****** Randy Jernigan. His latest press release is sickening.... What is it with some people? But please tell Marie her real fans don't believe that junk. Thanks.

I'm looking forward to the show! I just saw it mentioned on the Robin Leach site. I'm not worried that Marie will shy away from anything - she never has before!! She was the first celebrity to talk about post-partum depression, after all, and I saw her talk about divorce and eating disorders on Oprah. But, please accept this vote IN FAVOR of JOLLY THINGS. ;0) I agree with the person who said there was too much negativity.

Sorry, but Marie Osmond is not Ellen or Oprah. And she (With her Mormon Beliefs) will only want to talk about JOLLY things and not the sad things (Rape, Incest, Child Molestion and Spousal abuse, these things that go on every day with women. Marie herself is a Victim of suppression through the Mormon Church. The Mormon church will take action against any of it's female members if they try to speak out. Sooo, the show will undoubtly fail within a couple of months time unless Marie gets wise to the ways of a successful show. I hope I am wrong.

I am so looking forward to Marie's talk show. I always learn to think in a grateful way about things happening in my life because of her. No matter what happens in Marie's life, she takes the bull by the horns and turns it in to something postive. Here's to a great talk show!

I 100% agree. Marie is such a professional and so gracious. She amazes me. No matter how much she is suffering, she always has a beautiful smile and makes those around her feel special. Too bad more celebreties are not as humble and friendly as the Osmonds. PS, Marie your show is FABULOUS!!!!

Yes, I also agree. I'm so tired of negativity. And there are so few safe shows for families. Judging by the responses to Marie's last blog, it sure seems there's a lot of interest!! :) Ritch, when you say there will be a "whole lot more" women watching, so you mean because of the economy/unemployment? If so, there'll could be a lot more men, too (although that's not the demographic, of course). It could also be that many stay-at-home moms will re-enter the workforce parttime to help their families. Since most stay-at-home moms seem to have more than one child, I would think Marie would resonate with these women, too.

I couldn't agree with you more. Marie has experienced so much in her life and it's the way that she handles each experience that make her so special. Her positive attitude, faith and love of her family is incredible. That she is willing to share her challenges with all of us, so that we may learn, shows what kind of person she is. I am looking forward to her talk show. She is has helped me in so many ways that she is unaware of. I hope that someday I can share with her all of the wonderful things she has brought to my life.
