From the Donny and Marie show at the Hollywood Theater, MGM hotel in Vegas!
What a week this has been. After arriving back in the country at the end of June from our family’s 50th anniversary in show business world tour, Donny and I (along with director/choreographer Barry Lather, and our musical director, Jerry Williams) literally had about 9 rehearsal days to pull together a 90 minute Vegas show. Of course, some of it had been in the works but no one told my unprepared muscles that I’d be dancing for at least 35 of those 90 minutes. Pass the Advil; we just performed 9 shows in 7 days!
Donny and I were going over cues one night at one a.m. for the show and, in our weariness, started laughing about when we were teenagers and trying to pull the variety TV show together every week. Okay, flash backs and hot flashes. Should they go together???
Of course, being a brand new show there was plenty of material for a blooper reel. At one point I need to do a “quick change” on stage, going from wearing a floor length skirt for “Paper Roses” to a leather rocker coat for a big-production cover of “Would I Lie to You?” On the second night of the show, I had 4 male dancers and finally the wardrobe assistant circling my waist, trying to quick change out the skirt for the coat as the band is cranking up the Annie Lennox hit. Which could lead me to a joke: “How many dancers does it take to undo two simple hooks?”
In the meantime, I know that Ritch and Josh and the Program Partners team have been criss-crossing the country to introduce my 2009 talk show. I’m hearing good things back from them and looking forward to the future, with all its possibilities.
I’m getting tons of response about the talk show everywhere I go, too, with the most pressing question being: “When is it going on air?”
For now, though, September 9th of this year, you can find me (and Donny, too) performing at the Flamingo hotel in Vegas. We’ll be there for 6 months, so come and have fun with us! (By then, either my muscles will have adapted to the work out, or my brain will be blocking the pain!) The show is Vegas like it used to be: singing, dancing, band, some razzle-dazzle…the kind of variety (from our personal hits, to Broadway, to big production numbers, to video-art archives and footage and much more), which I love and grew up on, all very family friendly.

Wow what a great show. We were able to see two shows while in Vegas. Let me say you were definetly ment to sing opera. I cryed both nights. This was my very first Donny and Marie show and I loved every minute of it. See you in November. Your MDF's love you.

I watched the MTC with you and your brothers, I really loved it. It brought tears to my eyes as I watched it. I can't help but watch it over and over again.

Saw 3 shows in Vegas and loved every one of them. I so wanted to meet you and tell you how much I admire you, but unfortunately we didn't find the stage door! I did get to ask a questions at the sound check though, which was fun. You guys looked and sounded great! I don't think I can make it to the Flamingo, but if I do I am determined to meet you in person. Have fun with the show!

Just one question. I just saw the announcement that Lisa Hatch will be leaving your employment, Are the two of you OK? Why is Lisa choosing to leave after 23 years? Is she ok health-wise? Marie, glad to hear that things are moving along with the talk show! I'm looking forward to it. I've seen a bunch of other talk shows announced, but, well, I'm not into guests fighting or people putting each other down.. or more doctors or cooking. (I love doctors - esp cute ones ;) - and cooking, but there's enough of that.) I hope your show will be just what you seem to be on your appearances - a fun mix of family, jokes, performing and useful info. Thanks! Marie, I love you (and Donny). I grew up watching you guys, from your Variety Show, to your talk show. Then somehow, I lost track of you guys for a while. Then all of a sudden, you're performing on DWTS (I voted for you by the way), the entire family is on Oprah (I couldn't stop crying) and then the most wonderful news in the world to me...DONNY AND MARIE ARE BACK!!! I saw all 8 MGM shows and it was one of the best weeks of my life to see you and Donny reunited again - I so love the both of you together! The shows were over the top A-MAZING, I loved every second - astounding each and every night! And thanks for being so sweet to all of us at the stage door, you're an angel! oh my goodness!! the mgm shows were FABULOUS!! i went to 3 different shows & each night they got better & better!! my fav part was that u had a costume malfunction every night & just went on like it was no big deal! i luv your attitude & ability to go with the flow! i hope your armpit got sewn back together in your silver dress... it was beautiful! [the dress not your armpit!] cant wait to come back & see the flamingo show =]

Marie, the MGM show was fantastic! I loved ALL of it - from "Would I Lie to You" to "Pie Jesu" - it was all spectacular. Oh, and Donny was great too! :) I hope you liked the cross-stitch I made for you. I hope to see you and Donny at the Flamingo too! Ah! Only 9 days of late-night rehearsals. Would that explain why you were in a fog singing "Pie Jesu"? :) The MGM show was fun, wardrobe malfunctions notwithstanding. Just think of all the "Crazy" men you'll meet at the Flamingo! The Pioneer Day performances were amazing, especially "Through the 'Tears'" Saturday...whew!! Rest, get the kids in school, do pilates, then rehearse for September refreshed.
