Good morning, TV Biz Twitterers. What’s for Breakfast?
Does anyone really care about what other people eat for breakfast? It’s a legitimate question prompted by the proliferation of meaningless info in the social-networking media age. Here at Mel’s Diner, of course, the answer is often “Yes.”
I care more about what folks in the TV industry have to say over their meals (particularly during an interview with yours truly) than what they are actually putting in their mouths. Who they are spotted with is also interesting, as that’s often a clue to new partnerships and pacts being brewed up.
Still, learning the other day via social-media-of-the-moment Twitter what George Stephanopoulos was eating — namely “flatbread w sour cherries” for breakfast in Tehran — told me he was experiencing the place he was reporting from. Smart by him to share that; it adds a dash of authenticity to his professional brand.
I’m still using a Twitter learner’s permit but now following about 250 people on there, some of them media colleagues, some execs and producers and some front-of-the-camera folks. I’m learning lots about who knows who, a bit about people’s personalities and some surprising things about what people actually do with their day. (Example: Plenty of celebs spend plenty of time tweeting amongst themselves.)
Here’s a sample of what I found out from about 9 to 9:10 am PT on Friday about what TV people were doing for breakfast.
The inspiration for this morning’s post….
ben_stillerMorning. I don’t think you really care about my breakfast, but i’ll tell you anyway. Today it’s waffles
a bit later….
ben_stillerDinner will probably be some sort of fish. Thought i’d tell you now so you don’t spend the whole day worrying what i’ll be eating later
One minute apart — these TV chefs seemed to be the only ones NOT tweeting about food….
jamie_oliverhave a good weekend everyone…
roccodispiritoI’m not the type to complain about bad weather but when its a beautiful day like today you sure do feel the difference.
Director Kevin Smith anticipating effects of some regional cuisine….
ThatKevinSmithOn the scout. The best and worst thing about being back east for the next few months? Constant access to YooHoo. Lard-ass gets ever fatter.
Celeb blogger doing a TV appearance on a local TV “breakfastcast”….
perezhiltonHey Angelenos, I’m gonna be on KTLA in 30 seconds!
The Hills starlet Lauren Conrad is just starting to tweet and much of her updates are about food. She twitpic’d a photo of these after tweeting about them earlier….
LCLaurenConradUmmm… did anyone else know that there’s a “birthday cake” flavored jelly bean? Kind of amazing!
Prior to that LC tweeted….
LCLaurenConradIn Chicago on our way to Milwaukee. Were searching for our next meal (hungry!!) Is there such thing as not THAT bad for you fast food…?
Also got a pic of what actor Greg Grunberg (Heroes, Alias) had to eat this morning (oatmeal with raisins and side of bananas)…

And apparently Private Practice’s Kate Walsh had a run-in with some food Thursday night, according to Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush…
