Fly on the Wall – FX’s Chuck Saftler, Amanda Bynes, Mischa Barton at STK and Ginnifer Goodwin at M Cafe

December 5, 2008

**Mel’s Diner got a literal shoutout Tuesday night at The One Group’s STK  in Los Angeles. FX network exec VP Chuck Saftler was having dinner at the next table over from me. When I caught his eye, he said over the aisle, "Hey Mel, are you doing an interview over there?"

Chuck was with a group of work friends, some from LA, some visiting from NY. He’s a fan of this place – and clearly it of him. He seemed to know everyone. He said he’d consider it a top pick for a Mel’s Diner interview down the line. He recommended the apple pie dessert—thank you, Chuck! The beet salad appetizer my friends and I tried was also a standout. Yes, beets.

STK is apparently a TV scene Tuesday nights. Amanda Bynes and Mischa Barton were both there, and the guy running the door at the club told me STK is a favorite hangout among the Dancing With the Stars cast.

The restaurant’s vibe definitely evolved as the night wore on. The décor is simple and elegant and seems like a fitting choice for a cable big shot like Chuck to pick. But then Amanda and Mischa showed as well as a long line of young, gussied up wannabe doppelgangers for the cast of 90210 or any other CW show. We kept thinking we were celeb-spotting – "Isn’t that the lead on 90210?" We kept asking. "Yes, I think so," then, "Nope, good try though."

Before heading over to the club next door, I overheard this conversation, conducted with a red alert tone, in the ladies room.

Girl A: "I really, really need pink lipstick right now."
Girl B: "Lipstick or lip gloss?"
Girl A: "Lipstick. Unless someone has brown nude lipgloss."
Girl B: "What you need is this 9-hour Chanel lipgloss."

As Girl B proceeded to give a professional makeup lesson on how to apply it, I sheepishly exited after having just used the Burt’s Bees "lip shimmer" I buy at Rite Aid.

** From a friend and Super Fly correspondent on Wednesday: "I saw Ginnifer Goodwin from Big Love at M Cafe (the macro Chaya lunch place) on Melrose today. Looks like she was with her mom and other la familia!"
