Oprah on YouTube
Wow, YouTube really has taken over the world. Tomorrow’s Oprah features “stars of YouTube,” including one-time British cell-phone salesman Paul Potts – now an opera star, thanks to Britain’s Got Talent; a couple who’s cheesy wedding dance video – featuring the moves of Dirty Dancing – became all the rage online; and yes, you guessed it, a skateboarding bulldog. Not like YouTube needs the publicity, but an appearance on Oprah is well known to boost anyone’s popularity, and in the promos, YouTube’s logo was prominently displayed in the background. Actually, it strikes me that YouTube is so popular – the site marked nearly 50 million unique visitors in September, which made it the 11th largest domain on the Internet, according to Compete.com — that maybe even Oprah benefits more from such an alliance. The line that divides TV from the Internet is narrowing so much that soon it won’t even be discernible.
