SNL Faves Make Online Waves

September 18, 2008

There’s a lot going on at the BYB today. But first, I am happy to report that my total number of friends on Facebook is nearing 250, and I’m pretty sure that makes me super popular.

Word: working in a coffee shop all day while your car gets serviced makes for One Wired Blogger. I am unclear if that’s a good or bad thing. I’m sure it will become clear by the end of today’s entry.

Well, I was going to blog on how the SNL alums continue to be big hits on the Web, noting in particular Will Ferrell’s latest video at Funnyordie.com. However, I watched it and while I found it highly amusing (remember my 13-year-old mentality), it includes way too much indecent language for B&C’s FCC-friendly web site. SO … if you want to check it out, go here, otherwise, move along, there’s nothing to see here.

Amy Poehler – who is almost as goofy as Mr. Ferrell, if that’s possible – is actually taking a turn for the more serious with her new Web series, Smart Girls at the Party, produced by On Networks. The show, which premieres in October, “celebrates young girls who are changing the world by being themselves.” That sounds good as long as girls being themselves doesn’t mean “thinking like Sarah Palin.” Wait, did I say that out loud?

And of course we can’t forget the incomparable Tina Fey who teamed with Poehler on Saturday to create the funniest parody I’ve seen in a long time. That said, now I can’t really watch Palin without thinking of Fey and it’s confusing my simple brain.

I don’t think any TV show has benefited more from broadband video than SNL – the two just go great together like chocolate and peanut butter or coffee and biscotti, which I think I will go have some more of. Wait one second …

Ok, I’m back now that the kind barista filled me back up. Moving along …

Comedy Central has relaunched ColbertNation.com, including lots of current and archived videos and news about Steven. And speaking of combining two great tastes that go great together – OHMYGOD — there’s a video of Steven Colbert as a Rock Band avatar singing his 80s power ballad/love anthem about stalking.  How did they know that I love Steven Colbert and Rock Band with equal fervor? And Colbert in eyeliner as an avatar with Rock Band sound effects in the background is almost too much for me to take. See how many things you can waste your time on when you don’t have children? Honestly I tried to post this video here but again I had no luck. This embedding thing seems like a good idea but it’s not panning out too well so far.

Finally, if you really only watch the Emmys to see Joan and Melissa Rivers on the red carpet (and I really don’t know who you might be but I’m sure someone loves the Rivers this much) and are now despairing that they may not be there at all, not to worry: the mother-daughter duo have popped up at new Web site MyHollywood.com. The site is geared toward women, offering entertainment news and gossip, fashion and style tips, casual games and online shopping. The Rivers’ five-minute red carpet take will air on the site shortly after the Emmys get started on Sunday night so check back around 8:30 p.m. ET if your Emmy night won’t be complete without their snarky comments.

Ok, that’s enough from me today and I have to go anyway because Barack Obama is emailing me. Have a good weekend everybody!
