National Bingo Night: ABC

May 24, 2007

“ABC calls its concoction “high action” bingo. Actually it’s a high-concept attempt to low-ball the viewer.”(NY Times) “To paraphrase ABC latenight host Jimmy Kimmel, "National Bingo Night" really does make "Deal or No Deal" appear smart and demanding by comparison. This strange compliment is based on an unfinished preview, but as with the game itself, it's not difficult to fill in the blanks. Completely skill-free except for a rudimentary grasp of probability, the program meets the two major criteria of modern gameshows — cheap and simple minded — while dressing up a pastime enjoyed by old ladies in Nebraska with graphics recalling "The Running Man."(Variety)  “The ability to play along aside, there's nothing about "National Bingo Night" that viewers haven't seen before. But that interactive element may be a draw for people who love bingo — if they can get to ABC.com on a computer.”(post-gazette) “The simple way to decide on whether or not to watch National Bingo Night comes down to if you want to play along. If you want to play along National Bingo Night is a pretty good show. If you don’t want to print out the cards you might as well not even bother watching.”(mytvisonfire) “Full of energy, suspense, and thrilling victories (plus some agonizing defeats, of course), Bingo Night might just have you clamoring for your own ink dabber come show time. But if you're tempted to let your younger kids join in the fun, it's worth noting that the contestants and audience members are presented as adversaries — one's success means the other's failure.”(ivillage) “The show to which he refers is "National Bingo Night," which bows on ABC Friday - at 9 on Ch. 7 - and, if anything, is further proof that the game show is, was and quite possibly always will be, prime time's most durable format.”(newsday) "The thrills and high stakes are enjoyed not only by the contestants, but also with the viewing public. Each episode is three games, and viewers have the opportunity to log in and win with the game cards they print out from ABC.com at home."(tv.com) "It drags things out FOREVER! You could fit a whole other game show in the wasted time spent as the smarmy host, Ed Sanders, recaps and vamps and dawdles in numerous other ways to stretch out the alleged suspense of the game. And really, when it comes right down to it, what is this show about? Bingo, the game your grandmother plays at church every week."(star mag.) "National Bingo Night" achieves the near-unprecedented feat of jumping the shark during its opening minute, a high-tech, "Rollerball"-esque, Orwellian nightmare melange of giant numbered and colored balls rolling down metal tracks, hyperactive camera movement and frenzied studio audience members caught in the throes of quasi-seizure."(hollywoodreporter)

I've previous commented on the game, and since, take it back. Like i said before I'm a regular player of bingo at the local halls, but when u bingo whether alone, or with several people u get something either by urself or split with the others, and apparently several people won on the blue game. I have yet to get any kind of feedback from them a call, letter, email, anything. So, I don't think I will be playing or helping their rating get any higher because their not appreciative of their viewers, let alone their winners.

i throught bingo was interesting, i did win on it the second or 3 rd week it was on but at times i have large amount of cards, like 128 cards and i know after awhile n37 was hard to get. the one i won on was the last game (blue) i didnt get any thing for it except to be but in a drawing that was it. sorry to see bingo go but its better to have a game were everyone can win at. it's too bad that the world cant be equal, where everyone's treated the same.then there be no more sending anyone to war, everyone would win. what can your reader's do to make one thing in life easier for someone else it would be a nicer world, wouldn't it.

We play and my wife won a couple of times. its about having fun playing the game and your not guarentee to win, even if there is a predetermined amount of winners. Some people here sounds like a bunch complainers suck it up and be a man. does anyone know if there will be a second season.

I won on the white game on the I29 before the gentleman bingo on tv. I've had my card verified, when I submitted the winning card. Just like regular bingo it's a game of risk. U win some u lose some, and personally i loved the game. I'm a regular bingo player and it gave me and my kids the opportunity to play together on Friday nights, as a matter of fact we made it a family night, with family and friends, and had a BLAST!!!! LOVE IT!!! How can u not when you're not spending any money.

I have won all but the last show. We received a Rascals Flat CD in the mail for the first winning card. Nothing after just put in the drawing. It's fun to do with my family.

For all 2 of you who've won congrads! My family and I have been playing since the inception and haven't won. We make it Family get to gether night, so it's at least 9 people playing. Last week I printed out 40 sets of cards and no winner. That's one hundred forty cards for each game and no winner? Not to mention the cost of ink and paper to print the cards and the "snack & soda" the staples of the night! Seems to me the only winner of this game is ABC.

We have won three different weeks and have had a lot of fun with watching and playing. Just like in real BINGO, some cards are winners and some are losers.

I too had the same problem. My husaband and I had 20 cards. We had no "n's" that were called. My husband did win one game but I tried for days to verify my card. I kept getting the same error "please verify Step 2". I never could get it to work so I contacted their support via email, that was four days ago and still haven't gotten a reply. We never did get to register our winning card. I'm playing this Friday but if I have any more problems I won't play again.

It is fixed! I had the same problem on 60 different cards - no N-37 tonight!!!! The problem comes in the fact that the show is pre-recorded, so they already know what numbers are needed to win. They then tell their computer to only print out X number of cards with N-37 and make all the other cards losers. If you wanted to, you could print out 10,000 cards and then just look for the couple of cards that had N-37 on them - I bet those couple of cards would be the only winners. It costs too more than $5 to print out the cards just to try to win a $5 Kmart gift card. No thanks. Make the game live and maybe I'll watch....

I just want to let everyone know that this Bingo game for the viewers at home who are playing is FIXED. Last Friday I had a bunch of people at my house and on the White Game N-33 was called and not one of us had it. We all thought it was very suspicious but continued to play. No one won! Tonight N-33 on the White Game was called and and know one had it and the winner in the audience that one had N-33 (Fixed or What) Then the blue card N-37 is called again not one of us had it and the winner in the audience wins and would'nt you know he's got N-37. We are all not playing or watching anymore, IT IS FIXED!!!!! It costs me more money on ink to print the cards
