Beyond Tina Fey: The Sarah Palin Look-Alike Gallery

Tonight’s vice-presidential debate will be the first opportunity for American TV viewers to spend quality time with Republican nominee Sarah Palin since she accepted the nomination a month ago.

Apart from that rousing primetime speech, we’ve seen precious little of the previously unknown Alaska governor in the five weeks since Sen. John McCain tapped her to be his running mate. Catching only glimpses of her in news clips and in her interviews with Charlie Gibson, Sean Hannity and, most recently, Katie Couric, we’ve had to use our imaginations, resorting to stand-ins to fill the absence.

How else to explain the rapture that greeted Tina Fey’s impersonation on Saturday Night Live?

Looking for Palin doppelgangers has become a minor pop-culture phenomenon, with Web surfers collected separated-at-birth pairings of the candidate and, well, any slightly famous person with a beehive and glasses.
