T.D. Jakes On MSNBC

November 4, 2008

6:27 p.m. ET

I am somewhat surprised to see evangelical bishop T.D. Jakes, 51, providing political analysis on MSNBC.

Industry insiders know that Jakes is the focus of a new talk show from Dr. Phil McGraw’s production company, Stage 29, that CBS Television Distribution is shopping and Tribune has already purchased for next fall. I watch a fair amount of MSNBC and haven’t seen much of Jakes here - it makes me wonder if NBC might be considering the show for its stations.

To my knowledge, Jakes is not as political as he is populist. He may not be well known to B&C readers, but he reaches an incredibly large audience. He founded The Potter’s House, a 30,000 member church in Dallas, Texas, a non-denominational mega-church. Services and sermons from The Potter’s House air on Trinity Broadcasting Network, Black Entertainment Television and The Word Network. He also hosts an annual revival called "MegaFest," which draws more than 100,000 people in stadium-sized confabs, and an annual woman’s conference called "Woman Thou Art Loosed."

He’s also writing over 30 books and is a songwriter, playwright and performer - sort of like a Christian Tyler Perry.

Check out more on Jakes here.

Seeing him on MSNBC tells me that Jakes is working on getting more mainstream. I assume that’s partly about trying to gain publicity for him as CBS and Stage 29 gears up for his talk show’s launch this fall.

Bridgette claiming the sins of another is justification for another sin is not a legitimate method allowed through the bible. Both are sins. If you feel both parties are sinning (Democrats for promoting the slaughter of 1+ million babies per year, and Republicans for being racist). While I find your view misinformed, emotional, and not based in faith, you need to at least maintain some degree of logic in your statements. (but one thing for instance, the bible is quite clear on the difference between war and murder, and Abortion clearly falls into the category of murder)

I too am EXTREMELY alarmed at the Body of Christ's lack of response to the support for life. If you vote or don't vote for someone based on the color of their skin then what does that make you? LIFE of the unborn is BIG on the Father's heart and we shall all see where this will go.

To all the Bishops critics, where were you when his grandfather was tagged in a bag and tossed in the Mississippi River and drowned because of the color of his skin? You all scare me, when you all talk about Obama's pro choice fears, when the same Republican party (Christians) has not shown any care and consideration of those they can see. If you are going to judge...tell me why its prolife not to kill babies but to kill people in a war, if you are prolife where is your stand for those of other ethnicities?????

I was very saddened to see Jakes supporting a candidate who will push for "The Freedom of Choice Act", which is a pro-abortion bill. I have seen so many people compromise their values this year for the sake of electing a man with their skin color. It is very dissappointing.
