Hold the Nuts: 'Jericho’ Fan Vows to Fight On

March 30, 2008

Shaun Daily may have lost the battle for Jericho, CBS’ twice-canceled post-nuclear-war drama, but he hasn’t conceded the larger war for quality TV.

Daily, you may recall, is the talk-radio host who inspired legions of Jericho fans to protest the show’s first cancellation, in May 2007, by deluging CBS with shipments of nuts. The network agreed to resurrect it for a seven-episode run that ended last week, but dismal ratings sealed its fate.

Reached Wednesday in Las Vegas, where he hosts Shaun OMac Radio on Web radio network BlogTalkRadio, Daily says he’ll fight on for his favorite show. But this time, he’s called for a less-aggressive campaign of sending postcards to CBS Paramount Network Television to urge the studio to find a new home for the series.

(Jericho Co-Executive Producer Carol Barbee is hopeful: Last week on Daily’s program, she told a caller that a cost-sharing deal with cable giant Comcast has been floated, as well as the possibility of a feature or TV film.)

But Daily says “the Jericho battle was not just for the show but for all scripted television,” a rejection of “more Law & Order spinoffs and bug-eating reality shows.”

Obviously he’s not alone, he adds. His audience has quintupled, to 5,000 listeners a day (live and download), since launching in October 2006. And to his amazement, he was recently contacted by an Iranian news service to talk about Jericho.

Says Daily: “I guess they like the idea of nuking the U.S.”

But who will listen to his ideas for those TV shows??? Producers generally dont take to outsiders, I fear shawn and his ideas will get nowhere with the networks.

hopefully someone will give his ideas an airing

I think he mis-spoke -- it is not Iran nuking us in the USA -- it is the USA nuking Iran. Expect it in April or May.
Look for another False Flag like 9-11 either before or after the invasion.

I think it's very important that we change todays scripted televsion shows. The ones we currently have now for example "CSI Miami" are mind poisoning and after the show ended I was just sad and depressed because throughout the whole show the people are all psychotic even the star of CSI Miami isn't exactly the kind of person I or anybody I know would want to look up to. Most other shows are just like that just with a different title and actors. The scripts are always the same boring, depressing, uninspiring scripts. JERICHO is the complete opposite of that. JERICHO is the only show that earned it's right to be on tv.

1) The nuke joke was funny. Of course, I despise political correctness in every form, so it's not surprising I think it was funny.

2) I love people who whine, "Why don't you do charity work instead of trying to save a TV show?" as if people MUST choose one or the other. The people who are trying to save "Jericho" don't spend ALL of their time working on "Jericho." How do you know how they're spending the remainder of their time?

Can't wait to see if you all laugh when Iran's president jokes about nuking New York City. Would it be funny then? It may be funny to you, but it castigates an entire nation's people with an illegitimate joke that is based on your personal point of view. That you can't see it isn't funny to everyone is quite revealing about you.

Fortuantely, the reality craze has died down and/or has moved to YouTube... it's time to get back to quality entertainment and the big content producers and distributors need to understand that their future paychecks depend on where the viewers go... and over the last several years, OVERALL ratings have been going DOWN, not up, as viewers find their quality fix elsewhere.

first of all the nuke joke was funny, some people just don't have any sense of humor which is a shame in this crazy world we live in. Next the guy who is whining about not wasting our time and finding a cure for disease why would you even post on here, evidently you don't care about the show so you don't have to stay here and see what we have to say. I think the big fight is going to be getting television companies realize that they are going to have to change there business models, things change and there are other mediums out there to watch for entertainment and if they don't realize this they are going to get left in the dust.

"Let's all band together to do something important like finding a cure to some disease instead of wasting time trying to rescue a second rate tv show that has been canceled TWO TIMES!"

The rest of my entire life is devoted to helping others. Call me selfish, but I need some decent fiction that I can disappear into for awhile and relax. Fight on, Rangers!

Statements like "I guess they like the idea of nuking the U.S.” make it really difficult for me to support Shaun Daily. When I heard this "joke" on his show I cringed and now to see it in print disturbs me yet again.
