Dancing With Steve Guttenberg?

February 17, 2008

The cast of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars won’t officially be revealed until Monday evening, on the finale of Dance War. But one celebrity jumped the gun the other day, saying he’ll be a contestant when the show debuts in March: Steve Guttenberg.

Steve GuttenbergGuttenberg, star of such classics as Cocoon and more Police Academy sequels than he’d care to admit, happened to be at a midtown Manhattan dry cleaner Friday, where he told everyone who would listen—and many who didn’t seem to care—about his trip to Los Angeles to appear on Dancing With the Stars.

Rumors have been flying for weeks regarding potential cast members, from magician/comedian Penn Jillette (very credible) to presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary Clinton (not in a million years), but Guttenberg was not among the names floated around online as far as I could tell.

So, good luck Steve! I’ll be rooting for ya. Those shirts looked like they were pressed perfectly. I’m sure they will impress Carrie Ann.

STEVE GUTTENBERG TO BE HONORED

AT 2008 GOLDEN WAGON FILM FESTIVAL JULY 18th-20th

Ocean Beach, Fire Island, NY – The sixth-annual Golden Wagon Film Festival would like to announce that Steve Guttenberg, star of film and television, will be present to receive the 2008 Tony Randall Lifetime Achievement Award for his work in the entertainment industry, as well as his numerous and generous community service efforts. He will attend a reception in his honor as well as a screening of his career retrospective at Ocean Beach, New York on July 19th starting at 4:00 PM.

Starring in an amazing 52 films, Guttenberg’s big screen successes include four fantastically successful series of films: “Police Academy,” “Three Men and a Baby,” “Short Circuit” and Ron Howard’s “Cocoon” and their sequels. He has also appeared in such acclaimed dramatic hits as Barry Levinson’s “Diner” and Franklin Schaffner’s “The Boys from Brazil” and Curtis Hanson’s “Bedroom Window.” His television credits in addition to “The Day After,” include, “Miracle on Ice,” in which he portrayed the goalie on the Olympic gold medal hockey team. He has a number of directorial efforts, including “P.S., Your Cat Is Dead,” which Guttenberg also starred in, produced, and wrote based on the respected James Kirkpatrick play.

Mr. Guttenberg is scheduled to attend a wine tasting reception in his honor on Saturday, July 19th from 4:00 to 6:00 at the Ocean Beach Marina. Tickets for this event are $25 and will be available at the door or online at www.goldenwagonfilmfest.com. Tickets are limited. He will also attend a presentation and screening of “Diner” at the Ocean Beach ball field at 8:00 PM. Tickets for this event are $10 each and available at the door or online.
Along with his success in film, Guttenberg has devoted much of his time to volunteering with the Red Cross, where he spent 16 days assisting in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. His own philanthropy, The Guttenhouse Project provides free, clean and supervised living accommodations for kids as they make their transition out of foster care.
The Tony Randall Lifetime Achievement Award was created in tribute to the first Golden Wagon honoree, Tony Randall. The award is given to a member of the entertainment industry who embodies the same love of Fire Island, independent spirit, and community service that Tony Randall shared.
The festival kicks off July 18th and runs through July 20th. In addition to screening numerous feature films, international shorts, and docs, the festival includes a children’s film festival on Sunday and other great events. Tickets for the festival are available online at www.goldenwagonfilmfest.com or at the event.
