Roasting The Donald

March 10, 2011

Comedy Central taped its Roast of Donald Trump at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York Wednesday night, and despite being in the hot seat, The Donald may have had a better night than The Situation.

Jersey Shore star Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino was one of the roasters, and by all accounts bombed in his first time doing comedy. Most of his jokes were met with murmurs from the audience, and eventually some boos, until roast veteran Jeff Ross joined the podium to trying to save him.

The actual comics, Ross, Whitney Cummings and Anthony Jeselnick all had strong sets, and actress Marlee Matlin (currently starring on Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice) got some laughs with the help of a sign language interpreter – and a cameo by Gilbert Gottfried.

There were the obligatory Charlie Sheen jokes – “winning!” – and lots of shots at roasters Larry King, Snoop Dogg, Lisa Lapanelli and host Seth MacFarlane. In fact, the roasters got picked on just as much as, if not more than, Trump himself, though there were predictably plenty of hair jokes. Even Trump’s wife Melania, who was seated in the audience, escaped with only a few jabs.

The Roast airs next Tuesday, March 15 at 10:30 p.m. on Comedy Central. For a preview clip of The Situation’s “comedy,” see below.
