Sorry, PTC, But Who Gives A $#*!?

May 21, 2010

In a shocking development, the Parents Television Council on Thursday expressed its displeasure with the title of CBS’s new William Shatner comedy, $#*! My Dad Says.

$#*! My Dad SaysBut CBS is hardly quaking in its boots, and nor should they be. CBS research chief David Poltrack, who famously knows a thing or two about using profanity, told me the network did plenty of research into the title and is completely comfortable with the result of the testing, which included focus groups.

For those of you wondering, CBS will use the word “bleep”–not the sound, the word–when referring to the blog-turned-show in promos and such.

The title of this new TV program and a recent movie titled "Kick-Ass" only remind folks who would never say such words (unless the word in the movie title is in reference to donkeys or silly peopple) how unpleasant society has become. These titles will only hurt these productions when it comes to promotions, as many broadcasters will not be saying the proper title of the CBS program, which could have been titled "Stuff My Dad Says", which will most likely become the alternate title, as "(bleep) My Dad Says" is ridiculous.

Everyone should feel comfortable saying the title of a TV program or movie without upsetting or embarrassing anyone.

They are getting pretty ridiculous. I am pretty sure no children will be armed from the title of this show.

Dear PTC, please find some semblance of a grip on reality.
