‘America’s Next Top Model’ Season 14: No Shorties!
America’s Next Top Model, the long running CW reality competition show now in its 13th cycle, has never been afraid of hogging the media spotlight.
You may recall that for its current 13th cycle, producers decided that all of the contestants should be below 5′7, due to the fact that most models tend to be ridiculously tall, leaving some shorter women in their shadows, so to speak.
For cycle 14, there is a new requirement: no shorties! Ok, it wasn’t that blunt, but anyone looking to audition must be at least 5′7 to apply.
Now, to be fair, the release also says that producers are looking for contestants “of diverse backgrounds, shapes [and] sizes,” and of course the current season features a cast of entirely shorter women.
But it does kind of beg the question, why have a height requirement at all? Rather than have a whole season of just shorter women, why not go out of the way to include women of various heights?
Of course, logic and America’s Next Top Model do not always go hand in hand. We all know what happens at these casting calls:
“The girls were running like it was 9/11 part two,” Jennifer Brown, 27, of Kensington, Brooklyn told the New York Daily News. “I feared for my life.”
NEVER FORGET: 3/14/09
If you are a female that is at least 5′7 and are of diverse background, shape or size, feel free to try out for America’s Next Top Model at auditions in Atlanta, Las Vegas, Houston, Los Angeles, Chicago and Denver.
And remember kids, play nice.

I really am disappointed about the change of the height requirement... You know how many beautiful women are out there that are " short"... It's a shame that you've decided to change the requirements... Hopefully this idea changes...

i think that anybody should atleast be able to try out reguardless of height, it clearly says girls of different shapes and sizes. i think that height falls into size and that everybody should get a chance.

I read about attending the casting over the summer and i read you had to be 5'7 but can be shorter depending on the judges and then there was to be a age limit but it also said if you're 30 come on down anyways the casting was not professional we all stood in line all shapes, sizes, race, and ages when the line moved and you entered the building there was a paper on the wall to measure your height you would then take off your heels and if not 5'7 without shoe you could not get pass the teenager who was helping or working for the summer so you could not talk to anyone or turn in your application, pictures,or I.D/social security card so there were alot of upset people because of misreputation trying to get people to come out and when you get there it was a another story that was unfair people had flew in from other states and a couple had been there from 3am and it started from 10am-1pm it was'nt a big turn out so everyonee was saying why not see everyone at least no to mention the one's that were picked were 5'7 taller and very thin clothes was falling off some and that's unhealthy i hope they can have it more organized and stick to what is printed on paper and online

Uh lets see... Eva Pigford, Bre, Jaslene, the plus size model Whitney. I've seen quite a few of the in magazines in commercials and doing other thingg. You call that nothing. I feel that if you are an aspiring model it would be a great oppurtunity to be on antm. If is is a true dream u would do almost anything to get it.

aspiring models who are at least 5'7 or more are not stupid enough to try out for "america's next top model"; they have a better chance at going with something more reputable, like a modeling agency, or getting modeling gigs on their own. if you go through, antm, you get nothing. who from antm has gone on to be a famous model? exactly.
