What Happens To Studio 60 Now?

February 14, 2007

We had mixed feelings when NBC announced that it is only going to air one more episode of the Stuido 60 on the Sunset Strip before premiering The Black Donnellys. For some reason we've actually been watching the show. Watching S60 is like watching the cable news networks cover the death of Anna Nicole Smith - you just can't look away.

So our first thought was "whew, about time somebody put poor Aaaron Sorkin out of his misery." But our second thought was "jeez, wonder where NBC is going to stuff the final episodes?"

When CBS canceled Smith at the beginning of this season unaired episodes were given a last chance on CBS' InnerTube website and when ABC canceled Daybreak earlier this year it put the excess episodes on its website. But NBC has not been so kind to its vieweres. It has chosen not to put the final episodes of its canceled shows, like Kidnapped, online.

Assuming S60 is finally dead, we hope NBC does those of us who've actually suffered through thte show a solid and puts the last episodes online. Otherwise how will we get to thrill to the sight of NBS executives firing every last member of the cast and crew of Studio 60 in that special final episode?

We certainly aren't going to watch it on the inevitable DVD. We don't care that much.

What a sad day. My favorite
show is gone. Can't imagine
any show good enough to replace it.

I really can''''t bear the thought of the show going off air. I''''ve read so much mis-guided criticism about it, mostly about how the jokes ain''''t funny. Guess what: it''''s a drama about a comedy show, not a comedy! And it''''s great drama, it''''s witty, amusing and highly entertaining with an amazing cast. The Christmas episode is one of my all time favourite TV episodes. Studio 60 is the only show I can watch over and over again - in fact, I''''ve watched each episode at least three times, because it''''s just that good!
I don''''t know how I''''ll go on without it...

Love the show as well, and would hate to see it go. But in a time when American Idol is a hit program... It's a sad day for television.

I love it too. It is one of the best shows on TV and works on so many different levels. It is clever, funny and inspired and not like anything else on the box. I will miss it.

Does everyone agree with me the 2/12/07 episode was the greatest since the beginning of the show. I hope someone will tell Sorkin it''s a turn off to hear those two bickering (you know the two.)

Excellent excellent show. Not for people outside the industry I suppose. Take it to HBO where you''''ll get longer shows, longer seasons, more support for innovative programming, and a free pass to rail on a fictional network with a struggling sketch comedy show (as opposed to doing it ON a struggling network who runs a struggling sketch comedy show). HBO is the light, walk toward it.

I actually didn't know that the show wasn't doing well, or that it got bad press. I really like it and have always been a big Sorkin fan. It has its problems, sure, but I'd love if it were given a second chance.

Lukes5858, you expressed perfectly what I've been feeling since STUDIO 60 premiered. I love the show, and want to scream every time I read a critic who dismisses it, while simultaneously lamenting the lack if intelligent prime time programming. I hope Sorkin finds a way to keep it alive (HBO?), and hope as well that shows like this can find their way in the morass of illiterate…er…reality programming.

TVSeriesFinale, really? I actually really liked Kidnapped. Since I knew they had filmed a conclusion when they canceled it I looked for it on the NBC website. Never found anything remotely new. Guess I didn't look hard enough.

NBC actually put all of the aired episodes of Kidnapped online, one per week. A DVD set will be out soon.

Give me a break.

I for one love the show. When I say love, I mean it. I watch it religiously twice a week.

I don't care that most people don't click with it. I don't care when people bash it. That kind of negativity does not affect my enjoyment of the show every week.

But please... PLEASE... you can't just say things like that. I know you're not the only one, so this hopefully will reach other people : stop swinging both ways.

"I watch it every week and MAN, do I hate it".

"I can't stand Matt and Harriet. Danny's a stalker. The show's pretentious. Sorkin's a pompous ass. Please, NBC, upload the last episodes!"

DUDE(S)... if it's that painful, stop watching. It's that simple.

If I wasn't incredibly frustated at this attitude right now, I'd be amused at the irony of online (and printed) critics giving themselves a trip of self-importance while giving the show a hard time for being self-important.
