WBKO Apologizes for Boob Tube Flap
September 19, 2007

WBKO Bowling Green has issued a letter of apology stemming from the clip of longtime weatherman Chris Allen doing "juvenile and unprofessional" things to a graphic of a woman's breast on the set.

"The tape is embarrassing, offensive, and certainly does not represent the Hometown values WBKO is known for," reads part of the letter.

V.P./G.M. Rick McCue spends much of the letter saying what a swell guy Allen is. Just this past weekend, in fact, the weatherman worked on a hospital telethon to raise money for sick kids.

McCue says to give Allen a break. Will viewers?

In answer to your question...probably. Chris Allen IS an all-around swell guy. Just like every other human in the world, he does make mistakes. It's my guess that the viewers in the area have enough sense to know that. The bottom line is that what Chris did was STUPID and JUVENILE. It was also OFF AIR and was a response to a practical joke that was being played on him AND it was never supposed to have been taped, much less broadcast. The real villan here is the former WBKO employee who STOLE the tape and then published it on the internet.

I'm a local viewer of WBKO. I don't have a problem forgiving Allen for the boob thing. That's juvenile but harmless. But when he does that, and at the same time in his WBKO weather blog argues against global warming because "God wouldn't let it happen," that's why I'll have a hard time giving him another chance.

I would say drop it, as everyone knows as long as people talk about it the more it gets twisted around. No one got hurt, so let it go.

Chris Allen has been a wonderful addition to the team at WBKO for many years. I don't think this incident will tarnish the good reputation he has set forth in his long career as a meterologist. I find it hard to believe that public figures never have a moment of silliness where their guards are let down. Furthermore, if we judge Chris for a silly moment, we are hypocrites. I don't think he would have done this if it had been "on air". He is far too professional on air.
