It's not HBO, it's YouTube, to write the obvious headline
February 25, 2008

Hey look – now you can see full episodes of HBO’s dreary In Treatment on YouTube too!

While I’ve already made my feelings about In Treatment clear, launching a YouTube channel makes a ton of sense for HBO. As a premium cable network with nearly 30 million viewers, it’s difficult and expensive for HBO to market its programs, specials, movies and documentaries to people who aren’t already subscribers. A channel on YouTube allows HBO to reach out to the masses. And with 61.3 million unique visitors to the site in January alone, according to ComScore, YouTube certainly hauls in the masses.

Besides full episodes of In Treatment, HBO’s new YouTube channel includes videos from most of HBO’s original series, including The Wire, Extras, Entourage, Def Comedy Jam, Real Time with Bill Maher, Real Sports, and most importantly, Flight of the Conchords, which is one of the more hilarious things on TV.

On the subject of hilarious online videos, Jimmy Kimmel has offered his response to Sarah Silverman’s brilliant “I’m F*&King Matt Damon” video (which Kimmel says eight million people have watched on ABC.com and YouTube.com). Although Kimmel's version includes about 3,000 celebrity cameos, including Damon pal Ben Affleck in an obvious role, Brad Pitt as the Fed Ex guy, Don Cheadle and so on, it doesn’t hold a candle to the original. And Kimmel standing around naked in a cape is far more frightening than funny.

OK, I do admit the Josh Groban part made me laugh out loud.
