[CBS Goes to Court, Sorta]
CBS has filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit submitted by former CBS Evening News anchor Dan Rather, calling it “bizarre” and “baseless.” Rather had filed the suit claiming that executives at CBS had forced him out as a result of Rather presenting fake documents relating to President Bush’s military record, or more accurately, lack thereof.

[Alright Katie, Take Two] Speaking of Dan Rather, current CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric was seen getting a few laughs at Rather’s expense in a new YouTube video making the rounds through the tubes. Couric is seen adjusting her trench coat before a live shot in Nashville. “I'm going to be like Dan Rather on YouTube," says Couric. Later on she adds: “I'm going to get in trouble… Too bad. Come on, it would have been funny. Jeez, don't you think he deserves a little payback?”

In the original YouTube video, rather is seen adjusting his trench coat for 20 minutes, deciding whether he should wear a trench coat or not.

[President Dobbs!?] CNN anchor Lou Dobbs is said to be seriously considering a run for the presidency in 2008. In a blog post on CNN.com, Dobbs said “I believe that independent Americans will demand a far better choice than any of the candidates now seeking their party's nomination. I believe next November's surprise will be the election of a man or woman of great character, vision and accomplishment, a candidate who has not yet entered the race.”

Wink wink nudge nudge say no more.

[Conan: Also Classy] In a follow up to yesterday’s story regarding David Letterman paying the production staff of The Late Show and The Late Late Show. Bill Carter says that Conan O’Brien will pay the staff of Late Night if the show does not come back.

[Stewart, Jon Stewart]
And come back they might, as Variety reports that the reps of the late night hosts, apparently taking a cue from Ethan Hunt: “have been engaging in secret backchannel conversations with each other about when it might be appropriate for their hosts to return to their studios.”

How James Bond-ian. Come back soon guys!

[Maybe if He Had More Hollywood Fundraisers…] Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards will be joining the picket line at NBC headquarters in Burbank. Obama was the first candidate to actually pledge solidarity with the writers, a move that angered some of his Hollywood fundraisers.
