[Today in Hopeful But Unconfirmed Rumor mongering…] Just how close are the AMPTP and WGA to signing a deal? Sure, talks are set to resume today, but Nikki Finke says that thanks in large part to the agents working behind the scenes, the studios and writers are very, very close to a deal. I guess while those mailroom boys were bringing the writers churros the agents were wheeling and dealing.
[I So Want to Friend Charlie Gibson] ABC News is the latest member of the “traditional media” to hop on the new media bandwagaon for the 2008 political season. ABC is teaming up with Facebook on a debate set to be held just a few days before the New Hampshire primaries. ABC will also allow Facebook users to follow the latest political news through the site.
[Infiltrating Enemy Territory: News Division] Keith Olbermann popped up twice (!!) on Fox yesterday, Olbermann voiced himself on The Simpsons, where he named Marge Simpson “worst person in the world,” just beating out Satan and Mr. Burns. Later he appeared on a rerun of Family Guy, playing a corrupt oil company boss who bribes Lois Griffin, who was elected mayor. As TVNewser notes, he also did his regular duties on Football Night in America on NBC.
I am just waiting for Bill O’Reilly’s The Office cameo.
[Where Have all the Chefs Gone?] Emeril Lagasse will be leaving the Food Network. According to FishbowlNY, talks broke down between the celebrity chef and the cable channel. Emeril has been with the network practically since its inception. The network will continue to air reruns of Emeril Live and The Essence of Emeril.
[So MTV Makes Games Now, Eh?] MTV’s Rock Band, a game that puts players in the role of rock superstars, with a faux guitar controller and drum set to boot, has become a roaring success. My proposals for future games: A Hills simulator where you talk about nothing for an hour, then do retakes after being prodded by producers. A TRL game, where you take songs no one likes and try to get kids to like them, and a Real World game where, well, I think we should save that one for when the kiddies are asleep.
