No Oscars? Simpsons on Ice... and More
December 18, 2007
[I Would Like to Thank the Academy, But I Can’t] The Golden Globes and Oscars will go on as scheduled, but they will have to do without writers or old clips. The WGA denied waivers from the Hollywood Foreign Press and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, so they are out of luck when it comes to scripted material. The WGA and SAG awards however, will likely go on with writers, as the WGA has ( or will) authorized waivers.
[Peacock Grabs Monk… Psych] NBC has announced that they will air Psych and Monk, two of the more popular shows on NBC owned cable channel USA on the parent network beginning in March. This is of course a reaction to the dearth of programming caused by the WGA strike. CBS will air Showtime shows beginning next year as well.
[That Explains The Giant Homer Head on the Way to Work] In order to promote the DVD of the Simpsons Movie, Fox has turned Bryant Park into a giant Simsponized extravaganza… on ice! In addition, the Empire State Building will be yellow tonight in recognition of the film. Apparently even the Empire State Building has a price.
[A Deserved Break] Good Morning America’ s Robin Roberts is taking a well deserved break to recover from chemotherapy. Roberts was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year. Said Roberts on ABC News’ Web site: “Thank you again for your cards, letters, gifts and prayers. I also appreciate your many e-mails. Your warm, thoughtful words have brought me much comfort. Especially what many of you said after I shaved my hair. Y'all sure know how to make a bald girl feel good!”
