Going Forward
March 10, 2008

Now renewing for a second season, Merv Griffin's Crosswords is the fast-paced, new generation “Q&A” game show in the great tradition of the genre from the legendary master of the game, Merv Griffin.

Merv, the creator of the two most successful prime-access series in the history of television, introduced simple but dramatic features to a game of universal appeal in the series’ first outing. The game plays out in classic style – Beginning Game, Mid-Game, End-Game and Bonus Round. Players answer questions to solve a crossword and win. A bonus round heightens audience anticipation.

Going forward with the second season provides the exciting opportunity to continue to refine the series with a view toward delivering continued growth. Enter Roy Bank, former executive producer of Mark Burnett Productions’ Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader who recently joined Merv Griffin Entertainment as president of television.  In addition to creating Fifth Grader, Bank was executive producer and creator of Amnesia, the new NBC game show. His resume includes Reveille Productions, founded by NBC Executive Ben Silverman, and producing for Woody Fraser. Roy has already begun the development process and there are some terrific ideas afoot that I’ll keep you updated on. Suffice it to say, we’re committed to delivering the very best possible program as we move into the second year.

Meanwhile, we continue to aggressively develop and implement a wide range of ancillary marketing initiatives, most of which accrue to the benefit of the second season. These include:

·        Crosswords Book Series - Launched at Barnes & Noble, Borders & Target - 250 million impressions

·         Hasbro Board Game – In production. $500,000 co-branding  marketing campaign - 1st Q 2008

·        Oberon Casual Game – In production. Downloadable game online at MSN, AOL Google Yahoo,  - 1st Q 2008

·         Website Games:  “Crosswords Extra’ Mini-Game and “Flash” video game with local ad sales component launches on-line

·         THQ Console Games -  In development.  Xbox and Play Station to launch 4th Q 2008

We’re looking forward to a great second year and we want to acknowledge, with gratitude, the fantastic support of our stations.

Do you know what would be awesome? If you made the game for Nintendo Wii as well. I'm just throwing that out there!

I love Crosswords, both the show and the host Ty Treadway. I think that shortly it will be in the primetime slot like Jeopardy and Wheel. I just want to point out one thing.....Ty says to the winner that they have 1 minute 30 seconds to solve the puzzle, it actually is 2 minutes 10 seconds..60 seconds in a minute and his statement would make it 90 seconds....Love the show and Merv Griffin gave us a great last rememberance. thank you
