MARCH MADNESS
March 13, 2008

Happy Spring Forward everyone. St. Patrick’s Day is here and Easter and Passover are just around the corner. Hope everyone is staying healthy with this flu that’s going around. I’m just getting over it myself and just in time because things are really cooking over at Crosswords. Roy Bank has just joined the team. Roy had previously been at Mark Burnett’s company where he launched the very successful “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?” Roy’s talents, enthusiasm and slight Philadelphia accent are a huge addition to Crosswords and to Merv Griffin Entertainment. Ok, so maybe the accent’s not that big of a deal, but Roy is a big deal. I’m confident that he will infuse Crosswords with the same skills and insight that he used to help make “5th Grader” such a huge hit. His presence will help take Crosswords to the next level.

On another note, I just received some extremely flattering news. A producer friend of mine who works on a very popular talk show recently interviewed Reese Witherspoon.  When he asked her what she enjoyed watching on television these days she excitedly exclaimed, “Crosswords!” Which got me thinking about how much fun it would be to do a celebrity version of our show. There are so many actors and celebrities who pass the long hours on set doing crossword puzzles. I’ve always heard that John Stewart and Bill Clinton are big fans of crosswords. Who else do you think would make a good contestant? I smell a prime time special here!

I read somewhere that Bruce willis loves Tim parker's USA Today Crossword, and also many baseball players solve USA Today because it is available in every city.

Well, one of the American Idol final contestants, David Cook, is a self proclaimed crossword puzzle addict. I think that's a great idea! You have to include a soap star game for sure. Malti--your "number one fan."

It's quite well-known among us "puzzle geeks" that Will Shortz keeps a list of celebs who solve crosswords. You could contact him through the New York Times. Also, several famous puzzlers appear in the 2006 documentary film "Wordplay."

Is Hasbro still making a board game of the show? I am really looking forward to it and hope they include all new puzzles. I LOVE THIS SHOW. Alice Anne

Finally saw the show today. Amazing! What great fun for crossword people. I LOVED the clue "who loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah" for "she"
