Where to be & what to watch…

NBC Universal takes its turn as the Television Critics Association press tour winds down. The morning features some Olympics action, then a Deal or No Deal-themed lunch. Across the country, the Minority Media & Telecommunications Council holds its Access to Capital and Telecom Policy Conference at the Westin Grand in Washington, D.C. A breakfast session sees FCC Commissioners Adelstein, McDowell, Tate and Copps speak on lifting barriers to minority ownership of media. The commissioners then hop on a jet, as the FCC holds a field hearing on “Broadband and the Digital Future” at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh. And lest Heidi Fleiss ever slip from our collective consciousness, HBO premieres the documentary Heidi Fleiss: The Would-Be Madam of Crystal at 9 p.m. ET.

Whoever is left from the weary TCA press corps schleps over to the Warner Bros. lot for set visits to Pushing Daisies and ER. Then it's on to the Fox digs for Dollhouse, with humble hosts Joss Whedon and Eliza Dushku, before a much-deserved potable with the cast of How I Met Your Mother. On the tube, the reality show Highway 18 debuts on Golf Channel at 10 p.m. ET. “Slow play is not an option,” goes the tagline, as five twosomes race around for clues and tackle challenges on the course—because golf isn't hard enough as is.

B&C, sibling Multichannel News and IFC join forces for the Creating Demand With Video On Demand free Webcast at 2 p.m. ET, featuring insights from WWE affiliate marketing veep Lisa Richards and Insight Communications programming whiz Karen Zelenz. If you can't log on, the Video On Demand Webcast will, of course, be available on demand. And where are all the 18-34 males these days? In San Diego, naturally, as the growing comic book confab/freak show Comic-Con is set to launch at the San Diego Convention Center. The TV industry is a bigger and bigger presence at Comic-Con; Warner Bros. Television screens Fox rookie Fringe at 6 and 7:30 local time. Speaking of freak shows, the season four premiere of Criss Angel Mindfreak rolls on A&E at 10. “World-renowned mystifier” Angel walks on the world's largest man-made lake. Uh, Jesus Complex, anyone?

Unity 2008: Journalists of Color is on at McCormick Place West in Chicago. NBC Nightly News/Today weekend anchor Lester Holt hosts the National Association of Black Journalists Hall of Fame banquet. Back at Comic-Con, there's a first look and Q&A with the Knight Rider gang, a peek at HBO's Alan Ball-created vampire vehicle True Blood, and a long-overdue salute to Greatest American Hero William Katt. Believe it or not, I'm walking on air just thinking about this.

ABC News hosts the “Meeting the News Challenges of the 21st Century” lunch session at the Unity convention; ABC vets Elizabeth Vargas, Martin Bashir, John Quinones and Ron Claiborne share what they've learned in the biz. And don't forget the big-screen debut of the X-Files movie. Can Mulder and Scully still stir up anxiety like they used to? I Want to Believe they can.
