Mediagenic zoologist and TV veteran Jarod Miller was named host of CBS' Greatest American Dog (working title), a reality show that has dogs and their owners competing for the title of, you guessed it, Greatest American Dog (editor's note: Top Dog would be punchier), as well as $250,000.
The series, slated to debut July 10 from 8 p.m.-9 p.m. on the network, will feature 12 teams of dogs and owners who will live together while they compete with each other in tests of their ability to train their dogs, which range from pageant contestants to plain-old pooches.
Miller -- heir to the TV animal kingdom throne of the likes of Marlin Perkins, Joan Embery and Jack Hanna -- already has two shows, the syndicated Animal Exploration with Jarod Miller and Animal Planet's PetFinder, as well as making regular appearances on Rachael Ray and contributing to Fox News Channel, CNN and The Weather Channel.
