What does the TV of tomorrow look like? Shine those crystal balls for The Future of Television West at the Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles. Today features “Reality Programming 2.0: What's Next for TV's Most Popular Genre of Programming.” Bravo Senior VP Andrew Cohen and TV Guide Network president Ryan O'Hara man the panel. Elsewhere in the TV world, PaleyFest salutes the FX drama Damages at the ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood. Stars Glenn Close and Ted Danson share the stage with the co-creators. On the tube, Frontline marks the fifth anniversary of the war in Iraq with the two-night series Bush's War, focusing on President George W. Bush and the would-be weapons of mass destruction, on PBS at 9 p.m. ET.
Tuesday, March 25The Hollywood Radio & Television Society holds the luncheon session “Where Do We Go From Here?” at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in L.A. Generate CEO Jordan Levin moderates what's sure to be a lively panel featuring Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly. Across the country, the National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation hosts “Making News: Broadcast Journalism for Non-News Executives” at 100 Park Ave. in Manhattan, while a few blocks west, the Center for Communication offers “How to Score: Music on TV” at HBO headquarters. Speaking of scoring, Hallmark makes points with advertisers when it throws its upfront presentation at The Modern restaurant at the Museum of Modern Art, along with a private tour of the museum. Wednesday, March 26Indeed, the cable upfront season is upon us, as USA President Bonnie Hammer presents the new slate at The Modern. Elsewhere in Gotham, Mediabistro hosts the panel “Advertising: The New Creative Agency,” featuring NBC Universal new-media wiz Gayle Maltz Meyer, at 92YTribeca. And PaleyFest goes '90s chic as it salutes The X Files. Creator Chris Carter discusses not only the creepy Fox series, but the creepy X Files film set to debut this summer.
Thursday, March 27The Television Bureau of Advertising throws its annual Marketing Conference at the Javits Center in Manhattan. Campaign Media Analysis Group COO Evan Tracey talks about political spending, Meredith Broadcasting president Paul Karpowicz gets the B&C Broadcaster of the Year honor (see p. 19), and ABC News chief Washington correspondent George Stephanopoulos chats over lunch. Down Texas way, the AFI Dallas International Film Festival kicks off. The Opening Night Gala features a screening of Helen Hunt's directorial debut, Then She Found Me.
Friday, March 28Backyardigans Live! Tale of the Mighty Knights, featuring those rascally scamps from Nick Jr.'s The Backyardigans, kicks off its 50-city tour in lovely York, Pa. For the grown-ups, a new batch of Battlestar Galactica, starring Mary McDonnell as president Laura Roslin, is just a week away. (Frak, yeah!) Sci Fi airs a recap special at 10, and a “celebrity-studded celebration of the show's impact on pop culture” at 10:30. Speaking of powerful adversaries locked in a bloody philosophical clash, a decision is due on the Barry Diller/John Malone legal spat. Court adjourned!
