It’s Official: CBS Cancels Jericho

Low-Rated Sophomore Drama Will End March 25

By Ben Grossman & Alex Weprin -- Broadcasting & Cable, 3/21/2008 4:40:00 PM

CBS confirmed that the March 25 episode of low-rated sophomore drama Jericho will be its last.

The series next week will finish a seven-episode run in a second season that failed to show any Nielsen-fueled reason to go on.

“Without question, there are passionate viewers watching this program. We simply wish there were more,” CBS entertainment chief Nina Tassler said in a statement. “We thank an engaged and spirited fan base for keeping the show alive this long and an outstanding team of producers, cast and crew that went through creative hoops to deliver a compelling, high-quality second season. We have no regrets bringing the show back for a second try. We listened to our viewers, gave the series an opportunity to grow and the producers put a great story on the screen. We're proud of everyone's efforts."

Jericho was initially canceled after its first season. After a campaign to bring the show back that featured, among other things, fans flooding CBS with thousands of pounds of peanuts, CBS decided to bring the show back for a second season.
