E.W. Scripps president and CEO Kenneth Lowe will receive the Avatar Award, recognizing outstanding contributions to the communications industry and exemplary role in community service, from the Broadcast Cable Financial Management Association at its conference in Dallas May 13.
Lowe will keynote at the show, which is themed, “Your World. Your Connection.”
Past Avatar recipients include Cox Broadcasting chairman Clifford Kirkland, former Turner Broadcasting System CEO Ted Turner and former Federal Communications Commission member James Quello.
“With so much of the current industry interest and the focus of our 2008 conference on how traditional media companies apply their strengths and resources to emerging opportunities, Ken Lowe is truly the ideal person to receive the BCFM Avatar Award,” BCFM/Broadcast Cable Credit Association president and CEO Mary M. Collins said. “Moreover, in the tradition of the fourth estate’s close identity with public service, Ken has been an avatar in demonstrating how we can enhance the value of our companies, as well as our personal lives, through a strong commitment to community involvement.“
Lowe is a member of the B&C Hall of Fame.
