Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report Hitting the Road

Show Heading to Philadelphia April 14-17 in Advance of Pennsylvania Primary

By Alex Weprin -- Broadcasting & Cable, 3/18/2008 4:59:00 PM

Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report is traveling to Pennsylvania in advance of the important Democratic presidential primary being held there.

The Colbert Report: Dorito's Spicy Sweet Pennsylvania Primary Coverage from Chili-Delphia -- The City of Brotherly Crunch!

The show and its 80 staffers will take over the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts Zellerbach Theater on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania April 14-17.

This will be the first time the show has filmed a week of episodes outside of its New York studio.

In typical Colbert Report fashion, the special week of shows will be “sponsored” by Doritos, which also sponsored Colbert’s run for the presidency last year -- a run cut short by the writers’ strike and Colbert’s inability to get on the ballot. The Pennsylvania shows will be called “The Colbert Report: Dorito's Spicy Sweet Pennsylvania Primary Coverage from Chili-Delphia -- The City of Brotherly Crunch!"

As in Colbert’s run for the presidency, the show will once again team up with DonorsChoose.org, which allows donors to fund public school programs in all 50 states. Colbert will solicit donations -- all of which will go to Pennsylvania public schools -- during his show that week.

Said Colbert of his show’s visit to Philadelphia: "The road to the Democratic nomination goes through Pennsylvania, and I intend to make my show the decisive pothole on that road. Plus, it's just across the river from Camden, N.J."
