WGA STRIKE UPDATE: Writers Will Work on Grammy Awards Broadcast

Writers Guild of America West Reaches Interim Deal

By John Eggerton -- Broadcasting & Cable, 1/28/2008 8:29:00 PM

The Writers Guild of America West, which already said it would not picket the Grammy Awards, added Monday that it signed an interim deal allowing writers to work on the show.

Grammy Award

“Professional musicians face many of the same issues that we do concerning fair compensation for the use of their work in new media," WGAW president Patric Verrone said in a statement released Monday. "In the interest of advancing our goal of achieving a fair contract, the WGAW board felt that this decision should be made on behalf our brothers and sisters in the American Federation of Musicians and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists."

The awards are scheduled to air Feb. 10 on CBS.
