CNN is casting a wide and eclectic net for new news executives.
The cable network said Friday that it named Jay Kernis managing editor of CNN/U.S. Kernis had been senior vice president of programming for National Public Radio. He comes aboard Feb. 4.
In between stints at NPR, the first time around helping to create Morning Edition, Kernis had a 14-year hitch as a producer at 60 Minutes and CBS This Morning.
CNN's move comes after it reached out to grab Scott Matthews from Fox-owned WWOR/WWNY TV New York to be director of programming.
