EchoStar Freezing Program-Package Pricing

DishDVR Advantage Programming Packages Limited to $39.99 and $49.99

By John Eggerton -- Broadcasting & Cable, 1/7/2008 9:26:00 PM

Satellite-TV provider EchoStar Communications said Monday that it would freeze the price of its two DishDVR Advantage programming packages at $39.99 and $49.99 per month, respectively.

Dish Network

Those are the Top 100 and Top 200 programming packages that also include digital-video-recorder capability for two sets, as well as installation. The Top 200 package can be upgraded to Top 250 for another $10.

The freeze will be in effect until February 2009, which is the date of the switchover from analog to DTV terrestrial broadcasting.

The announcement came among a raft of them from EchoStar in conjunction with the 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. It is also offering a $39.99 DTV-to-analog converter box, which would be well below the $60 price point of other boxes.

The U.S. Government is potentially subsidizing $1.5 billion worth of converter boxes.
