WGA STRIKE UPDATE: WGA Awards Nominations Announced

Writers Guild of America Allows Writers to Work Screen Actors Guild Awards, But What About Golden Globes?

By Ben Grossman -- Broadcasting & Cable, 12/12/2007 8:23:00 PM

The awards show will go on for the Writers Guild of America, which announced the nominations for its annual WGA Awards Wednesday.

WGA Awards

But just how the show will go on for the Golden Globes, which announces its nominations Thursday, remains to be seen.

The WGA, which has been on strike since Nov. 5, already granted a waiver to the Screen Actors Guild to use writers on its Jan. 27 awards show -- not a surprise given the friendly relationship between the two groups during the strike.

But whether that will happen with the Jan. 13 Globes on NBC is still up in the air, and questions remain as to which stars will cross the line and show up anyway.

The Feb. 9 WGA show, the guild’s 60th anniversary awards ceremony, will be held in both Los Angeles and New York.

Among the television nominees:

Dramatic series: Dexter (Showtime), Friday Night Lights (NBC), Mad Men (AMC), The Sopranos (HBO), The Wire (HBO).

Comedy Series: Curb Your Enthusiasm (HBO), Entourage (HBO), Flight of the Conchords (HBO), The Office (NBC), 30 Rock (NBC).

New series: Damages (FX), Flight of the Conchords, Mad Men, Pushing Daisies (ABC), The Sarah Silverman Program (Comedy Central).

Comedy/variety (including talk) series: The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (Comedy Central), The Colbert Report (Comedy Central), Late Night with Conan O'Brien (NBC), Penn & Teller: Bullshit (Showtime), Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO), Saturday Night Live (NBC).
