Sci Fi Scores Best-Ever Ratings with Tin Man

Viewership for The Wizard of Oz-Inspired Miniseries Overtook Sci Fi's Previous Record for Spielberg's Taken

By Anne Becker -- Broadcasting & Cable, 12/4/2007 11:18:00 AM

Sci Fi Channel miniseries Tin Man premiered to the network's biggest numbers ever Sunday night (12/1), averaging more than 6.3 million viewers from 9 p.m.-11 p.m., according to preliminary numbers from Nielsen Media Research.

Tin Man

The first of three consecutive nights of the modern interpretation of L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz ranked as the most-watched telecast in Sci Fi's history, overtaking part one of the network's 2002 Steven Spielberg miniseries, Taken, which drew 6.1 million.

The miniseries, from RHI Entertainment, notched Sci Fi's largest single-telecast audience in both the 18-49 and 25-54 demos, drawing 3.4 million and 3.8 million viewers, respectively. Taken held the network's previous record for viewers age 25-54 (3.7 million), and night one of 2000 miniseries Dune held the 18-49 record (3.3 million).
