CNN’s presidential debate among Democratic candidates Thursday attracted the largest audience in cable news history.
More than 4 million viewers tuned in to see Democratic candidates face off in Las Vegas with Wolf Blitzer moderating and a very pregnant Campbell Brown tossing some hardballs at front-runner Sen. Hillary Clinton (N.Y.). Brown was a panelist along with American Morning’s John Roberts.
The Vegas debate topped Fox News Channel’s Republican debate from September, which now stands as the second-most-watched contest of the 2008 election season with 3.2 million viewers, followed by CNN’s Democratic debate from June (2.78 million viewers). The network’s YouTube debate among Democratic candidates is at No. 4 for the season with 2.62 million viewers.
The second-most-watched debate in cable-news history was Fox News' Democratic debate from January 2004, which pulled in 3.26 million viewers.
