Washington—Time Warner Chairman Dick Parsons Friday described Fox News Channel as "crazy people" exchanging views to a group of minority journalists at the Unity conference. He said he feels that the channel and his own CNN are two different services.

He dismissed Univision anchor Jorge Ramos' question about why CNN is losing the ratings battle with Fox. He said Fox is more like talk radio on TV, meaning that its viewers stay longer because people tend to "come and sit down for an hour or two and listen to crazy people exchange views." CNN actually draws more viewers, he said, but they are grazers who don't stay long.

Though not making an overt comparison with Fox, he did say that his news operation "does not give a corporate slant to its journalism. We don't tell them how to report."

Denver—Adelphia Communications will decide by year-end whether to sell its assets or try to reemerge from bankruptcy. The country's fifth-largest cable company said Friday it will initiate talks with potential buyers after Labor Day and hopes to finalize an auction by New Year's. Time Warner and Cox Communications have been considered the front-runners for all or parts of Adelphia systems, but Cox Enterprises plans to take its cable unit private, which likely means Cox is out of the running.

Burbank, Calif.—Gwynne Thomas has been named executive VP of programming for Buena Vista Productions, overseeing development, current programming and production. Previously, she was senior vice president and chief creative officer for online medical and health company MEDigy.com.
