NAACP Backs XM/Sirius Merger

By John Eggerton -- Broadcasting & Cable, 6/28/2007 12:46:00 PM

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has weighed in in support of the merger of XM and Sirius satellite radio.

In a letter to the FCC, AACP Director Hilary Shelton said the group was convinced the merger would be a "positive development" for consumers.

"More diverse, accessible and appealing options at lower prices in satellite radio will help further expand the reach of this medium,” said Shelton.

The FCC is currently considering the companies request to merge. It has to give the OK to allow one company to own both national satellite radio licenses.
