FCC To Examine Proposed MLB/DirecTV Deal

FCC Chairman Kevin Martin will look into a proposed exclusive deal between Major League Baseball (MLB) and DirecTV for an out-of-market baseball package, according to a letter he sent to Massachusetts senator John Kerry, who had expressed concerns with the potential deal to the FCC.
The package is currently available to both cable and satellite customers, but MLB and DirecTV are close to a deal to put the package exclusively on DirecTV for a reported $700 million a year.
After Kerry asked Martin to look into the deal, the FCC chief responded with a letter Thursday saying “I share your concerns regarding this proposed deal.”
Martin said the FCC “contacted the parties and requested additional information about their proposed arrangement. Once we have this information, we will report to you on the deal's implications for consumers and any recommended changes to the law to ameliorate any harms to consumers."
A spokesperson for DirecTV declined to comment on the situation Thursday.

Its $700M over seven years or $100M per year - NOT $700M per year.
