Martin Won't Make Portland Localism Hearing

By John Eggerton -- Broadcasting & Cable, 6/27/2007 9:54:00 AM

FCC Chairman Kevin Martin will not be attending the localism hearing in Portland, Me., June 28, according to a source with knowledge of the chairman's plans.

Democratic FCC Commissioner Michael Copps, who has been one of the strongest advocates for FCC field hearings on ownership and localism issues, will chair the meeting in Martin's absence.

Martin was also absent from the Senate Communications Subcommittee hearing on violent media images this week, where he was supposed to be a star witness.

Both absences were necessitated by the illness of his infant son, william, who remains in intensive care.
