Currently negotiating the purchase of KWHY-TV Los Angeles, Telemundo, which already owns KVEA(TV) , is poised to create the nation's first Spanish-language duopoly. KWHY-TV , an independent station owned by Harriscope, switched last year to full-time Spanish-language programming after years of a daytime business-news format. There is some history between the companies: Telemundo purchased WSNS(TV) from Harriscope in 1995.
According to President and CEO Buzz Harris, KWHY-TV is the last TV station owned by Harriscope, which used to own seven, including five network affiliates.
